Tharanga Weerasooriya is a university academic and English language educator serving in the Department of English and Linguistics at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. His teaching and academic work focus on English language education, applied linguistics, spoken and written English, and effective communication. He aims to help learners develop practical language skills that they can use confidently in education, the workplace, and everyday life.

His English programmes place emphasis on the four core language skills — listening, speaking, reading, and writing — alongside grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and fluency. Learners are encouraged to practise English through guided activities, discussions, presentations, writing tasks, and constructive feedback. Lessons are designed to support learners at different stages, from strengthening foundational English to developing more advanced academic and professional communication.

His areas of teaching and learning support include Spoken English, Written English, communication skills, academic writing, English Literature, and examination preparation. This includes English language support for O/L and A/L students, as well as preparation pathways for IELTS, PTE, and Duolingo English Test candidates. His academic interests also include applied linguistics, language learning, discourse analysis, and the development of clear, accurate, and purposeful writing.
